Wishing I could choose what to remember
I was an intern at the CHR station(contemporary hit radio aka top 40 pop)
97.3 kwnz during the 80's and this job included putting all the music on to carts (looks like an 8-track)over and over agian(like eight tracks they don't last long), because of this I know music from this era VERY WELL. What do this mean, hum a few bars of "I can't wait" I can tell you the bands name "Nu shoes" and other useless facts(one hit wonder), then, that Dam song will be repeating in my head for weeks. EVERY LYRIC! EVERY NOTE! Useless information like "Who is Johnny" sang by El DeBarge, first verse is
There she goes and knows I'm dying
When she says, "Who is Johnny?"
CRAP!!!!
No amount drugs/alcohol will get this haunting melody out of my head my only hope is somthing like what happpened to Johnny Mnemonic (dump long term memory so I can get a thumb drive installed). That or what happened to Joel Barish in Enternal Sunshine of the spotless mind just erase certain parts of my memory.
This would be great I could remember useful stuff like
were did I park the car
what did I do with my walet
or how to remove poison from a snake bit wound
Well untill then
"Who's Johnny?" she said
And smiled in her special way
"Johnny" she said
"You know I love you"
"Who's Johnny?" she said
And tried to look the other way
Her eyes gave her away

What I do to blow off steam
After a week of hard learning what do I do?? Learn more useless crap.
This weeks web stunt is make and upload Favicon. What is a Favicon? It is that icon in your address bar that your can drag and drop to make the page you are at a Favorite/or bookmark(Ohhh Favorite icon, favicon). piece of cake to make (16*16 in 16 colors(4 bit) in any image editor aka photoshop) then get a program to convert to a .ico file(you wintel people are on your own)rename it "favicon" and upload to your webserver in the root folder (the same one your index.html file is in).
Now that only works if you have a web server(or rent space) the trick is how to get it to work with free sites (aka blogger, geocites etc). Well you just put this in the head tag(not sure how to do that just view this pages source)
link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://the place i put this file.com/favicon.ico"
upload the file to storage (photobucket) don't forget to name the .ico file "favicon"
and presto change-o you got favicons.
Now if I could just get Flash to work on here(blogger.com)......
Maybe next week

Run don't walk!
Apple has come out with the Mini and it's cool and cheap($499). Also they put out a new iPod(flash version) for $99 so I guess they are trying to make some cheaper Mac stuff for all the potential newbees.
After watching the keynote speach at Macworld I have decided to update all my Macs with Tiger(10.4) now I just have to convince my wife to let me (wish me luck).
On a lighter note Bill had a not so good week at CES. After crashing three systems(one of which was a Xbox) I would say there will be some job openings at MS.
What a great week good things happen to Mac and bad to bill (win, win)

What I did in securities class(for Linda)
I am so glad that Thomas is teaching the class this means I learn and have a good time (win, win). Anyway we went over the chapter made sure we knew the TCP/IP model (not the OSI) which it took the whole class to come up with Application (This is were ports are), Transfer, Internetwork and Network Interface. I learned that Risk = Threat * vulnerability so if you have hack proof network (good luck) and a high threat level, your risk of being hacked will be none (0*10=0). In the first paragraph(page 2) he wanted us to highlight the phrase integrity, protect confidentiality, and assure availability (this is the ideal goals for a good security). In the second paragraph(same page) he didn't like the definition of threat he said it should read "A threat is defined as a Potetial unauthorized access to a network". Made sure we knew what a Extranet was a firewall and the rest of the class he gave us the "Thomas" outlook on the chapter. Tomorrow we need to install sever 2000 (Linda needs to bring 2000 evaluation disk). Monday we need to have gone over chapter 2 and 14 (fun, fun, fun).
See ya tomorrow
Mike
